Birthday Bash for Hip Hop’s most distinct artist- Kool Keith

KOOL KEITH’S BIRTHDAY BASH Featuring performances by Ultramagnetic MCs and DJs Large Professor and OG Chino!

Brooklyn Bodega, producers of the annual Brooklyn Hip Hop Festival, has partnered with RockSmith Tokyo and EVR to host Kool Keith’s Birthday Bash. The ULTRA-MAGNETIC birthday celebration, taking place on Thursday, October 7th at Southpaw, will be peppered with pioneers, tastemakers and Hip-Hop’s elite.

Kool Keith is a founding member of Ultramagnetic MCs (along with Ced Gee, TR Love, Moe Luv, and later, Tim Dog). In 1988, the Ultramagnetic MCs released their underground classic Critical Beatdown, which was a groundbreaking project in both lyrically and production wise. Produced by Ced Gee, Beatdown was one of the first albums to master the use of the SP-1200 and pioneered the art of sampling. Beatdown features classics such as “Ego Trippin,” “Funky/Mentally Mad,” and “A Chorus Line.” As a solo artist, Keith was one of the first rappers to assume different aliases (Dr. Octagon, Dr. Doom, Mr. Nogatco, etc.). “Dr. Octagon’s” signature stream-of-consciousness lyrical flow with complex vocal style, has proved to be a historic and influential style in today’s Hip-Hop.

Admission to this birthday extravaganza is $10.00 and doors open at 9:00 p.m. The soundtrack is provided by DJs Large Professor and OG Chino and the night will feature a live performance by the legendary Ultramagnetic MC’s, Jesse West and other surprise guests are expected. Don’t forget to bring a flower for Dr. Octagon, himself!

Insomniac Magazine wishes Kool Keith a Wonderful Happy Birthday!
