Insomniac’s Weekly Top Ten: Don’t Sleep On These New Releases

It’s an extended weekend for fun in the sun. So when traveling to the beach make sure you bring a towel, a cooler, and of course Insomniac’s Weekly Top Ten! Press play on the tracks below & get the summer started…

HipHopTop10-3

1) DAVE EAST & THE GAME join forces for a Harlem-Compton connection on a Buda & Grandz produced banger titled, “Bad Boy On Death Row.” The lyricists “welcome us to greatness” as they drop gems over Boom Bap beats laced with 70’s styled soul for the special occasion. Skills are in abundance as the supreme spitters prove once and for all it ain’t about East or West…It’s about who’s the best! These two emcees are in a lane of their own. Competition might travel the distance…but they’ll never come close!

2) JUST BARZ served up “Soul Food” straight from South Philly and delivered a dope BombVisionsFilm directed clip for added seasoning. Flowing over a funky, irresistible groove, the emcee laments over building a career as a lyricist during an era that doesn’t acknowledge or appreciate true mic skills. He’s studied the game for years, surveyed the opposition, and recognized his place as one of the best talents on the scene today. ‘Physically he’s in 2016, but his soul’s from the old school.’ Yep, just the kind of artist we need to shake up the industry!

3) APATHY enlisted TWISTA & BUN B for some “Handshakes With Snakes” heat called “Moses.” The refrain of the track is, “My enemies don’t exist.” Of course they don’t! The trio decimated each and every one of them with venomous rhymes designed to scare off any contenders for the throne. The lyricists part the sea to create a further divide between themselves and the competition as they lead the path to victory!

4) KILLA KALI & DIRTYDIGGS(POISONOUS DIGGS) continue to hit listeners with loaded clips of sonic artillery! Their new gem, “Bear Face,” boasts an electric frenzy of beats and rhymes that showcase the underground kings at their peak. Don’t panic though…”Bear Face” is just a title. No animals were harmed during the making of this song. The real grizzly is embodied in the combined talents of Kali & Diggs. Competitors watch your step. Poisonous Diggs are best to be avoided!

5) ELOH KUSH, JA THE GIFT & REDD ‘cashed in on their coochie coupon’ with a Dus produced gem from the forthcoming “AngelDus” album titled “Carnal Desire”(Lower Chakra). The track is propelled by a dramatic jazz loop that gives the lyricists free rein to detail their sexual exploits with the goddess who brings out their inner freak. Sensual and cerebral…It’s seduction for the soul!

6) HODGY BEATS treads into mellow(but NOT MellowHype)musical territory with the Nottz produced soul-fest, “Kobain.” The track highlights Hodgy’s effortless flow while supplying a light & easygoing vibe. Please don’t kill his high. Keep it cool…

7) BIG TWINS & MISLEADSOULS “Got Em All Shook” on a new DJ Woool produced banger that took the music back to the streets AND KEPT IT THERE! This is that gritty, unapologetic New York Hip Hop that true heads live and die for! Big Twins, MisleadSouls, and DJ Woool know exactly how to deliver it. Real artistry never fades away!

8) TRUE MASTERZ civilize the savage and conquer the beast one step at a time on their power joint from the “Almagest” album, “Saladin.” The West Coast titans delivered an atmospheric hip hop gem that has prime replay value for all dedicated fans of the underground. Check the joint below & salute the gods!

9) STARGIELA linked up with 808 & Saj to amass stacks of “Rap Money”…Ever since then n***as been actin’ real funny! That’s okay though. It’s all part of the game. When the music’s this funky money don’t really matter!

10) SNOOP DOGG linked up with October for a DoggyStyle Records smooth groove showcase titled, “Top Down.” This is one of those laid back, no-frills type tracks that sounds like Tha Doggfather is just rollin’ one up & chillin’ while October reinforces the fact he’s just happy to be in the building! Relaxing vibes & vocals. Just what you need for the weekend…

Well that’s it for this week. Catch ya next time and…DON’T SLEEP!
