Insomniac’s Weekly Top Ten: Don’t Sleep On These New Releases

We see you getting impatient. You’re bored…fidgety…’feeling like something’s missing from your life…Well, that’s why we’re coming through with another edition of Insomniac’s Weekly Top Ten…and by the looks of things, it’s just in the nick of time! Let’s get started…

1) BLACK MILK stormed the charts at #1 this week with the ULTIMATE banger called “I Guess.” When the track kicked in, our entire staff stared at the speakers in awe! “Did you hear those rhymes? That flow? THAT PRODUCTION?!!!?” The Detroit lyricist has it all! Simply put, there was no guesswork involved in selecting this week’s top entry. Black Milk wears the crown!

2) VIC SPENCER took a little time to reload, then returned to fire hot blasts of lyrical ammo at his competitors. “Lecture With The Dead” once again proved what we already know about the emcee…He’s a BEAST on the mic! Would anyone seriously step to Vic in a battle? Pfft…We think not! If so, they’re already dead…

3) HEEMS is taking over! The lyricist won BIG TIME with the wit, humor and dexterous flow he showcased on “So NY.” Harry Fraud provided the sonic backdrop that allowed the artist to express himself in such a bold & triumphant manner. It caught our attention & confirmed to fans everywhere why he’s “heavy in the streets!”

4) JOEY BADA$$ continues to cook up new tracks that keep listeners coming back for more. When a Kirk Knight produced cut called “Perception Vs. Reality” leaked a few days ago, it threw our office into a frenzy. We have to give props to the Brooklyn lyricist. He doesn’t lose!

5) THE PURIST has an incredible album out called “Pyrex Scholars” and “Pimp Hand,” featuring FREDDIE GIBBS, is one of the most impressive cuts. When production this soulful & compelling is combined with an electric, super-charged delivery that makes listeners’ heads spin, it warrants a top spot on our charts!

6) When CHARLES HAMILTON dropped precious jewels over an Oddisee track, we knew he was “Headed To The Top.” Let’s face it, we knew it WAY before that…but it’s still good to hear the lyricist speak his success into existence.

7) The J. PLAZA track, “Not Th3m,” hit the Insomniac office right before our cut off point for the list & we INSTANTLY knew it deserved a well-earned spot. To paraphrase the lyricist, we realize he “doesn’t give a f@#k about a Top Ten”…but all that does is provide more incentive for us to place him on one. Why? Two reasons. One is because it means that J is dedicated to his craft and could care less about what the media thinks about him(We like that)! And what’s the second reason? The music is so DAMN GOOD!

8) When RAZ SIMONE joined forces with PUSHA T & LEEZY SOPRANO for “That Ain’t Love” it added up to a power house production that exceeded our wildest imagination. Then again, we are talking about some of the best lyricists in the game, so our high expectations are well…to be expected.

9) Well$ dropped off a new track that sounded like a chopped and screwed version of Daft Punk’s “Get Lucky”…and it worked! PGMW, Lucho & Alec Lomami handled production duties on the compelling cut that enabled the emcee to express “Vices We All Share” with the listeners.

10) MAYALINO proved that he was the “Kilo Champ”(AND Insomniac Top Ten Champ!)when he teamed up with Pusha T & Scarface for a brand new StackzTooTrill produced track from his self-titled EP. Legends past & Legends future assemble for one bangin’ track!

Well readers, that’s another list for another week. Catch ya next time and…DON’T SLEEP!
