Mikey AK releases “No More Freebies” mixtape

Many emcees claim to be the best without actually putting in the hours required to refine their skills. On the other end of the spectrum are noble underground apprentices dedicated to studying the art of Hip Hop until they become masters within their own right. Such is the case with Maryland rhyme renegade, Mikey AK. The Glen Burnie lyrical gladiator has been putting in work since 2009! Now with the release of his 13th mixtape, “No More Freebies,” he’s poised to shut down the game.

Instead of delivering a bloated project comprised of filler, Mikey serves up 7 lean Drew Beats produced cuts that get the job done. The title track instantly draws listeners into the lyricist’s champion mindset as Mikey flows over a haunting, synthesized track. The mic savage employs a murderous rhyme assault of the ages while enacting a “killing spree” on the sinister sonic backdrop. “Run It Up” continues the audio attack of the highest order as Mikey returns with a vengeance to drop heat over a dope laid back groove that should be pumped up loud while cruising in the ride. “Loose Change” kicks in with an irresistibly catchy chorus & commercial soundscape that guarantee plenty of spins in the club. It’s also noteworthy for showcasing the spitter’s flawless ability to rhyme rings around any production that comes his way.

“Every Other City” takes listeners on a downbeat musical journey that is immediately at odds with the lyricist’s   uproarious boasts of success & stardom. The sonic cocktail soars as a dreamy, wish fulfillment piece that would flop in the hands of a less capable artist. “Up A Check” finds Mikey flaunting a slick rhyme scheme that cradles Drew’s tight minimalist production. Lyrics hit hard, refusing to let go! Speaking of ill lyrics, “Respect Me,” is a track that reveals some of the MC’s finest. After referring to fake friends & haters of the past, Mikey then updates us on his current associations by stating, “But now here I got the team right/see I had to pan left just so I could get the scene right/a few people got cropped in the process/movin’ like this don’t leave time for the nonsense.” YEP, the kid’s got BARS! “Reach You” concludes our adventure with a hypnotic tale of lost love, insecurity, and yearning. The song showcases the depth & range of this promising artist. It’s Mikey AK at his most vulnerable. When listening to a mixtape of this caliber you have to respect the artist who delivered it to the masses. From this point on there will be “No More Freebies.” Mikey AK presents a meticulously crafted project you’ll want to run out and buy!
