Network Music Conference brings music industry insight

The 5th installment of the Network Music Conference wrapped up for another year providing attendees, consisting of music entrepreneurs, producers, DJs, artists and students, with an ample dose of knowledge and opportunities to network. The annual industry event is the brainchild of multi-talented DJ Slym, an impressive impresario, touring DJ and music professional who dons many hats and does it well. This year’s well attended affair took place at the Double Tree by Hilton in downtown Orlando, and boasted a who’s who of industry players, including Keith Clinkscales- Revolt TV CEO, multi-Platinum producer and songwriter Kevin Cossom (Young Jeezy, Rick Ross, Meek Mill, etc.), producer Ben Parris (Flo Rida, Robin Thicke, Eminem, 50 Cent, etc.), DJ M-Squared (USA Red Bull Thre3style National Champion, touring DJ for Kelly Rowland, etc.)  and many other accomplished professionals.

One of the event’s many attendees, Durell Peart- founder of Double N Management & Marketing Group, expressed the value he finds in opportunities to network.  The young entrepreneur had glowing words for the conference, stating, “I’m a big advocate of going to industry events, I feel that its a great way to build quality relationships in the industry. The Network Music Conference is definitely second to none as one of the best conferences I’ve been to. The value provided is definitely helpful in showing aspiring and current industry professionals how to navigate the new landscape of the music/entertainment industry.”

There were several highlights throughout the event, including performances from an array of amazing talent. However, the industry panels, covering topics ranging from marketing and branding to making hit records, were certainly the biggest draw. Media veteran and Revolt TV CEO Keith Clinkscales shared a wealth of industry experience from his illustrious career that includes executive roles at Vibe Magazine, Vanguarde Media, and ESPN. During a keynote address and discussion, he imparted a great amount of wisdom to the packed convention hall of attentive attendees. The talk, which I was honored to serve as moderator for, contained Clinkscales’ lessons learned from his many years of experiences within the media industry, including those from his earliest venture. As a young entrepreneur, Clinkscales founded Urban Profile Magazine, a groundbreaking publication that was launched to help balance journalism and provide a perspective that filled a void that existed within media during the latter part of the 1980s. His advice to aspiring entrepreneurs, artists, and future executives provided both inspiration and invaluable insight.
