Review: Dubs – “White and Crazy”

big-dubs

When I first heard about an emcee named Dubs breaking into the music scene with a track called “White and Crazy,” my initial thought was, “Here we go. Another rapper who has to rely on a gimmick to mask his lack of talent.” Fortunately, the North Carolina native delivered a pleasant surprise in the form of a creatively inventive track propelled by demented lyrics and a funky beat.

white-and-crazy

Over the top cartoon violence is the name of the game as Dubs cuts the brake wires in his “friend’s” car for being a hater. He gleefully murders a neighbor & then sleeps with her mother just for the hell of it. That’s just the beginning of the maniacal mayhem that ensues! The rapper also scores major points for assuming an unapologetic stance about his race and position in the overall Hip Hop landscape. Unlike an artist like Macklemore, Dubs is clearly the type of performer to get in your face and say, “You don’t like me? DEAL WITH IT!” Bold, brash, bizarre, and unrepentant – The Raleigh rapper is all of the above. The industry needs more artists who speak their mind. Dubs gives you a big piece of his on the psychotic gem, “White and Crazy.”
