Holla Da Scholar & Maine The Medicine Present ‘A Scholars Prescription” & Interview

Holla Da Scholar and Maine The Medicine present their new 15-track collaborative LP ‘A Scholars Prescription.’ The no-skip project features Suspect Anxious and MC Son Lee on the track “Something Wrong.” Stream the album and tap into the interview below with Mr. Boom Bap himself, Maine, for behind-the-scenes.

MJ: You recently teamed up with fellow Hip Hop artist/producer Holla Da Scholar to release your collaborative album ‘A Scholar’s Prescription.’ How did you two meet, and what sparked the idea to create a collaborative album?

Maine: Well, we have been collaborating on records for years.  So, we thought it would be dope to do a whole project together.

MJ: Is there a theme for fans to follow with the album? What can they expect besides a dose of timeless, authentic Hip Hop?

Maine: No theme, just some pure Hip Hop. From the bars to the storytelling and production. We didn’t want to overthink anything about this project, just do what we’re both capable of doing.

MJ: This is a no skip project. Do you have a record or two that stand out, or that you feel Hip Hop enthusiasts will gravitate towards?

Maine: Man, every day I love a different joint. I know it’s the same for Holla as well. But “Hate” is up there, and “Live Life”. I think the fans will also have a difficult time picking just one joint.

MJ: Talk about the production and how Scholar’s son was brought into the mix.

Maine: So, we were beat shopping, and we had a joint from Native Seals, which was “Bake Bread.”  But some of the other tracks weren’t fitting the vision we had for ‘Scholar’s Prescription’. So, Holla was like I got some beats, and he started sending me some heat. When I told him these tracks were perfect, he told me his son Dame aka Twentybanxs had produced some of them. I mean, two of my favorites he produced (“Hate” and “Live Life”). We also have a banger with DJ Gatsby on this project. Holla took responsibility for the production and knocked it out of the park. As for Twentybanxs he is going to be the future; he is going to take what he has learned from his father and become a force to reckon with.

MJ: Take us into 2026…Are there any projects or endeavors you can share without giving too much away?

Maine: Yeah, 2026 is going to be crazy as well. I have a project coming out with my home girl Son Lee called ‘Mr and Mrs Smith’ in January. I also have a project with my boy Duds (guitarist) called ‘H82Luv’, it’s different, I’m stepping out of my comfort zone with that one. Also Holla has just dropped ‘Black Madusa 2’ and will soon be dropping ‘Underrated Goat 2’. ‘A Scholars Prescription 2’ is also on the horizon for late 2026. We just keep grinding and continuing to deliver that good music…Thank you, MJ, for your support and amazing work you do for the culture.
