LA-based artist 199X is sharing his talents with the world. His long-awaited project Kandyland debuted on March 5 and is still making waves. The EP can be described as fun, dynamic, and ultimately gives audiences a rockstar vibe from the independent artist.
Ironically enough, 199X says that he was in “rockstar mode when [he] was making this EP.”
“Only thing I focus on is telling my story and there’s so many different layers to that,” he said. “One day you may get rockstar X, next day I may hit the studio and be in my R&B bag.”
The talented artist is also a producer, which he says helps alot with getting creative in the studio and pushing a unique sound. Some of his goals are to push the culture forward, so he definitely makes himself standout with the latest project ‘Kandyland.’
The 4 track EP features some dope strip club anthems. “Kamera,” just to name one, is a song that you can imagine being played in a strip club. “Throw me that p—y, I’ll get you paid,” he sings on the track. The title of the album ‘Kandyland,’ was actually inspired by the underground strip clubs hosted in Los Angeles during quarantine. 199X says that the strip clubs helped fuel the inspiration for this album because they were ultimately a great time and a good vibe.
The producer, songwriter, and business extraordinaire, produced every song on his EP, except for the song “Kamera.” Arejeigh, who is 199X’s engineer, and also his brother, is responsible for creating the track.
“I just try to focus on creating the best art I can create,” 199X said in a recent interview. “I put the business behind it and let that shit float! Quality over quantity. As long as my shit hit — every day going to be a Friday … Eventually!”
