You may recognize the name from reviews and interviews of your favorite artists. Indigo Phoenyx is the First Lady of Weekly Rap Gods. However, she’s multi-talented and drops projects of her own, as well as features. Her latest effort is a new EP, “The Conjuring” which is entirely produced, mixed and mastered by PA. Dre. This collaboration resulted in 7 flavorful tracks.
The bewitching soundscape of “The Black Witch” sets things off, as Phoenyx elaborated through her bar game, why she’s built to outlast the over-saturated competition. The second joint, “Insane” resonated with me the most, from the glorious beat canvas, to the deep perspectives of life, as told through the verses of XP The Marxman, Phoenyx and Eddie Kaine. The piano keys are dope, along with the hard-hitting drums over “Avenge The Abbot” which features Kil Ripkin and Jae Hussle. Phoenyx goes in deep, showcasing her hardcore rhymes on the dark and haunting “Divine Deity”. She enlists Spoda and Miskeen Haleem to jump in on “The Ritual.”
There’s a sophisticated, jazzy vibe on “From The Dirt”, which has a guest appearance from Daddy O. Phoenyx is determined to prevail while remaining undefeated, through the darkest obstacles of the past and the present on “Crown of Thorns.” The production on this EP is solid, with lots of drums and sinister tones. Phoenyx remained sharp on the mic, as well as the other emcees who contributed. You can find the project on Bandcamp, while a video is in the works and will be dropping shortly. -Hipnotik1
