As a producer, writer and musician, Herb Middleton’s credentials are vast and include various multi-Platinum titles. His music credits feature releases from a who’s who in the music industry. Middleton entered the spotlight over two decades ago when he co-wrote with Teddy Riley for Bobby Brown. As well, he’s recorded music for Bad Boy Records, including playing keyboards on Biggie Smalls’ “Can’t You See,” and releases for Total and Faith Evans, just to name a few. He’s composed and produced for Mary J Blige, Nas, Usher, Will Smith and more. Despite all of these accomplishments, he states that his most memorable music experience was from his youth, when his older brother took him to a Kool and the Gang concert. With this insight, it’s clear that early moment in the music industry vet’s path was a spark of inspiration.
Middleton has also worked on music for legends Al Green and Teddy Pendergrass. When asked about these experiences, he shared, “working with Al Green was like a dream, unreal. He was very easy to produce and very receptive to taking instructions, but it [was] almost hard to do because of the respect and honor that I had for him. I had Teddy Pendergrass’s vocals only from the last song he recorded. It was the saddest experience I had producing a record.”
Middleton’s latest venture is role as CEO for NuVybe Records. There, the entrepreneur develops and releases for a generation of new artists. One of these acts is a young rapper named Nya-Jolie. Her music features a positive and empowering message for children. When asked how NuVybe is positioning itself in today’s music industry landscape, Middleton explained, “as a production house of constant hit songs and wealthy and successful artists.” With a lengthy resume featuring some of the most prominent artists in urban music, there’s little doubt Middleton will continue to thrive and parlay his expertise within the music industry to make NuVybe a force to be reckoned with.
Here are some of NuVybe’s artists in action:
Sultry soultress Bashiyra moves the crowd on the remix for “Don’t Get In My Face.”
R&B diva Ida Divine’s fashion sensibilities are on display in her music video for “My Shoe Game.”
Nya Jolie’s “I’ma Bring The Party Back” is a new era throwback summer jam for the kids.
