Insomniac Magazine’s Hip Hop Top Ten 3/5/18

Don’t Sleep On These New Releases

1. Lil Fame – “Say Nothing”

When people use the term “Brooklyn’s Finest” you just know they must be referring to M.O.P. legend, (Lil)FAME. The hardcore anti-hero of Hip Hop has always possessed a golden touch on the mic & now he’s back with an I-Fresh produced banger that BLASTS a hole in the chest of the competition! You want that grimy s**t? Fame’s gonna give it to ya! It’s a direct hit to the dome & he’s serving it up RAW!

2) FutureWave f/ Hus Kingpin and Daniel Son – “Gun Runner”

Designing a soundscape for Hip Hop’s heavy-hitters, HUS KINGPIN & DANIEL SON, is serious business. As a producer you don’t want to create a weak track because dropping the ball isn’t merely failing…It’s failing in a big, BIG way. Luckily the great Futurewave was up to the task. The beat scientist crafts an ominous sonic backdrop that allows the artists to do what they do best…rhyme their asses off & leave the listeners in awe. “Gun Runners” is a massive hit & the end result is straight up murder!!!

3) FORTES – “Mentor”

FORTES will tell you himself that he’s a man of many vices. But perhaps his strongest vice of all revolves around his ability to create ground-breaking Hip Hop tracks. He eats, sleeps, and s**ts the music. It’s an addiction he just can’t quit! Thank God for that because his creative urges have resulted in compelling projects like his current release, “Shadow Of A Ghost.” “Mentor” is a major highlight on the collection that breathes life into today’s stale music industry. Be glad an individual of his talent resides among us. Hip Hop is safe in his hands!

4) Vic Spencer – “Ultra Magnetic Bodybags”

Maintaining his status as one of the illest MCs on today’s Hip Hop landscape, VIC SPENCER merges his off-kilter flow with an equally unbalanced soundscape from production visionary, EVILLDEWER! The sinister proceedings that follow on “Ultra Magnetic Bodybags” will penetrate your soul and terrorize your dreams…but you’ll be grateful. Toss & turn all night long until you lunge out of bed. And when you wipe off the cold sweat you’ll want to play it again!

5) CERTAIN.ONES – “Trust & Believe”

BOBBY CRAVES, CHAMP THE POET & WANN SKLOBI deliver the sound of triumph to your speakers with yet another massive gem! It seems impossible that one crew can churn out so many winning joints in such a brief period of time but the CERTAIN.ONES are known to work miracles! ‘From the top of the chart they rip apart the scandalous commercial art.’ “Trust & Believe” they’re the best!

6) The Quarter Inch Kings x TRPL-R – “Dumpin”

Modern technology might be great and all but there’s nothing wrong with being from the era of the Walkman. Especially when it translates to dope music from THE QUARTER INCH KINGS & TRPL-R! You all should know by now that Toronto brings the boom bap! And that’s exactly what you get as these masters of sound go “Dumpin” on the competition! Don’t even attempt to contain your excitement. PRESS PLAY & check the flow!

7) Quadir Lateef – “Dysfunction”

What’s the difference between old man s**t & grown man s**t? Who the f**k knows?!? But what we DO know is that QUADIR LATEEF’s new Black Panther inspired EP, “The Killmonger Theory,” is certifiably dope! Produced in its entirety by Blaze Music, the project shatters speakers with raw beats & rhymes that dominate the scene. “Dysfunction” is what we consider the crown jewel of the collection. Listen to the passion embedded within the track and you’ll feel the same way too!

8) Supreme Cerebral and Free Mind – “Daily Operation”

One of the underground’s most prominent lyricists delivers his “Soul Glow” to an unsuspecting public and shines serious light on the dark & bleak wasteland known as the music industry. FREE MIND provides the audio backdrop for SUPREME CEREBRAL’S sonic journey while listeners can sit back & bathe in the fruits of their labor. “Daily Operation” is the perfect track to showcase the superior skills of the Hip Hop titans. Bugzy Nino & Free Mind keep things smooth but deadly!

9) VVS VERBAL f/ Sadat X and Craig G – “Then 2 Now”

For a lesson in the difference between Hip Hop from “Then 2 Now” you need a collection of artists who have lived & experienced it all! VVS VERBAL, SADAT X & CRAIG G detail what it means to be a REAL MC in the age of corporate controlled industry clownery. Es-K excels on production while Crusty Cuts handles his business on the 1 & 2’s. The authentic essence of the culture may be buried by the flashiness of today’s climate but it’s time to change things & bring it into the NOW!

10) CERTAIN.ONES – “Ghost Mask”

CERTAIN.ONES haunt the competition by landing one more monstrous master track on the countdown! FERAL SERGE, DZL, BOBBY CRAVES, and DJ CRUZE do the honors on a deadly cut that brings a savage, rock-fueled intensity to the underground arena! “Ghost Mask” keeps the party live with an ill joint loud enough to wake the dead!

Well that’s it for this week. Catch ya next time and…DON’T SLEEP!
