Insomniac Magazine’s Underground Elite 2018 (Expanded Edition) Part 2

(Be sure to start at part 1 so you don’t miss these impactful Hip Hop artists.)

G FISHER – The Enterprize Entertainment head honcho spits killer freestyles & covers a multitude of topics ranging from the periodic table to conversations with God. The Bronx bred lyricist doesn’t just talk the talk. He’s lived through every street tale he weaves to create a cinematic experience you don’t have to sit in a movie theater to witness. The gritty foundation supporting his rhymes is about as authentic as it gets. When you need a REAL MC you better call Fish!

GRANDMILLY is one of those low key emcees who will sneak up on you & drop bombs! The stealthy maneuvering works to his advantage because those who underestimate him will be thrown completely off balance when he rises up to steal the show! We recognize his hustle & pay him respect. He’s a lyrical innovator whose career is ready to explode!

HEEM STOGIED – The ATL mic ripper turns any dull setting into a high energy affair with his animated, high-pitched vocals reminiscent of the legendary Eazy-E. The comparison doesn’t mean he’s lacking a style of his own. If anything, he’s a standout among the cookie cutter nature of his industry peers. Heem gets better with each release & his Flip produced “Love Is Cursed” project is already a certified street classic. Now he’s “Back From The Dead” while keeping Hip Hop alive!

JAMAL GASOL – Dirty Waters’ pride & joy showcases so much finesse on the mic that it’s almost a crime. Blessed with the ability to elevate any track he’s on, Jamal issues the smackdown on all competitors while also delivering insight into his upbringing & raw observations of the world. It ain’t safe to go up against him in a battle. Jamal’s got the drop on the competition & mad skills that come with the game!

JAY HOLLY – The Southside Queens street soldier will give you Golden Era goosebumps with his classic flow & delivery. No other emcee can deliver as much dope content as he presents to the world without uttering a single curse! The discipline that requires is reason enough to salute the young king…but never overlook the clever structure of his verses. Jay is one of the premier artists of the underground & when it comes to rhyming he’s a natural!

J-SCIENIDE – Washington, DC isn’t just known for the White House or Smithsonian. It’s also the hometown of one of the smoothest rhyme assassins in the biz! J-Scienide usually chooses the grimiest tracks to flow over which assists in highlighting the nuances of his delivery. He holds s**t down when rhyming solo or when matched up with other juggernauts of the genre. We’re checking for him now & can’t wait to hear what he drops in the future!

KILLA KALI – The Gold Chain Music veteran is one of the most underrated emcees in the industry. After studying Rakim, Big Daddy Kane, Raekwon & other legends of the game the lyricist was inspired to embark on a music career of his own. Not only was he able to make it happen but Kali did so without compromising the hardcore aesthetic that fuels his creativity. If you need your Hip Hop watered down you better check somewhere else. Kali’s never one to sugarcoat a situation. He gets in your face & gives it to ya raw!

MACH-HOMMY – Hitting listeners with that Haitian heat, the enigmatic MC has already reached “legend status” in a relatively brief period of time. Revered for his stream of consciousness rhymes that play out like the most gripping conversations ever recorded, Mach has managed to crack the code for superior lyricism & flawless execution. Leaning on the eccentric side of the spectrum makes him that much more compelling. One of his albums may literally set you back an entire paycheck but in terms of the true value of his art you’re actually getting a bargain.

NOWAAH THE FLOOD – An emcee shouldn’t just be able to rhyme well. He should also have a charismatic presence on the mic and distinctive vocals that draw you into his creative universe. Nowaah definitely possesses those qualities(AND THEN SOME). Anytime he’s featured on a track you get the impression he’s thinking, “Step aside lil’ n***a, “I GOT THIS.” On his solo joints, he completely rips all sonic foundations to pieces. Simply put, he rhymes like he doesn’t give a f**k! That raw intensity combined with an immeasurable level of talent translates to permanent rotation on our underground playlist. The Flood has taken over. Nowaah’s the leader of a brand new wave!

PENPALS – Bringing the party atmosphere back to the underground, this crew is exactly who you call when it’s time to get LIVE! Their zany antics enhance (but never overshadow) the fact that at all times they come equipped with ill rhymes! Listening to their music gives you a sense of how crazy their concerts must be & an even greater idea of the wild s**t that must be happening at the aftershow! Rapswell & Cynic The Apache showcase a powerful rapport in the booth while Squires holds the entire operation together with sonic brilliance bordering on insanity.
