1) NEMS collaborated with artist MIKE SEE for the limited edition BANANA CLIP capsule & unleashed a BUDA N GRANDZ laced banger called the “Gorilla Clip!” The Coney Island Mayor caught serious wreck on the rock/boom bap fueled production with a lyrical whirlwind of apocalyptic destruction! When we want a monstrous mic assault this is the spitter we check for without hesitation. NEMS is the real muthaf***in’ deal. Other rappers are imitations!!!
2) It’s rare that we include remakes or remixes in any form on the countdown. That being said, TIMEPIECE x KILLY SHOOT flipped Kool G. Rap & Dr. Butcher’s classic “4, 5, 6” track so defiantly that it was impossible to ignore. Incorporating live drums from G. BARWOOD, horns from R. FAUSTO along with piano & bass from the great Timepiece himself, the audio enhancements allow this reimagined version to find a space of its own. The single most important element though is Killy Shoot’s distinctive take on the material. His control & cadence on the hyper-charged heat rock is what makes him an underground original!
3) ISAC NO BEAT & ZAGNIF NORI transport listeners to a state of sonic nirvana with a KING AUTHOR & TAP OUT featured gem titled “Bicycle Kick!” The euphoria inducing audio heater sounds like ya died, went to heaven, and were greeted with hardcore MCs at the pearly gates! This is chill-out music for the gangsta set. It’ll lift you so high your feet will never touch the ground!
4) REMY BANKS x ROME STREETZ cook up new heat for the underground on a “Phantom of Paradise” sonic feast titled “beef & broc.” LIKE! combines creative samples with boom bap beats & throws ’em in the mix for a mouth-watering meal you’ll always remember. On one side of the table is a World’s Fair wunderkind & on the other we have The King of the Streets. They’re the executive chefs of underground lyricism. Respect the skills and don’t stir up the pot!
5) We’ve been up on HUS KINGPIN’S “The Heroes” joint for about a month now. But with the official release of his “Portishus” platter, now’s the time to give the stellar sizzler its proper due. RANSOM x WILLIE THE KID are featured on the CHOPTHEHEAD crafted track that finds the three rhyme powerhouses weaving a wealth of majestic wordplay for the listeners. Chop manifests a luxurious landscape that rolls out like a royal carpet from the speakers. The supermen of the underground triumphantly stride across it before flying away to another adventure!
6) Separately TEK x CONWAY are known for creating “Pricele$$” material…but now that they’ve joined forces “The Machine and TEK” are virtually unstoppable! The Duck Down & Griselda griots ain’t about that soft s**t so ya know they’re gonna bring it to you raw! DARINGER greases up the set for another dose of grimey ass production. ‘Best get to steppin’ cause the boys are back in town!
7) CHRONIC TONE x AL.DIVINO are leaving jaws “Swollen” as they smack ya in the face with a heavy blast of heat from “MAFIUSU PT. 1!” MCs on that tough-talkin’ ish think they can get over but Tone & Al are here to pull their card! A hypnotic track channels serenity long enough for the rhyme rippers to enter the set and bash you into submission! It’s a new day. Witness the next level of savagery as you experience The Psychological Cyclone & Street Strategist in action!
8) “Broken Rhythm” & a shattered spine are what ya get when ALPHA_BETIC, O THE GREAT, SUPREME CEREBRAL, JUS NOVA(R.I.P.) & VILLIAN wreak unholy vengeance on a SHADOW MAGNETIC track! Many rappers think that Hip Hop revolves around nothing but style & flash. That’s all well & good…but s**t like that won’t help you when confronted by a savage squadron armed & equipped with raw BARS! Listen to this cut & picture a massacre in your mind. It’s an atomic bomb designed to wipe out all opposition!!!
9) SAGA dropped a “Six Demon Bag” on the listeners & one “Demon Bag” in particular is what we’re focused on for this countdown. The MARCO POLO laced extravaganza delivers maximum satisfaction with it’s insanely addictive production and sharp mic turn from the BK rhyme assassin. The maelstrom of music had us out of joint like Linda Blair while we did headspins on our neighbor’s kitchen table. This is the kind of cut that’ll turn a devil into a saint. It’s a big F**k you to any non-believers!
10) Is it REALLYHIIIM? Hell yeah it is! And this is the way we love to conclude our illustrious countdown! “Rare Moments” like these are hard to find but somehow the production juggernaut got MAF, ADONIS & 448BRAD on a track together! The murderous mic maniacs get to “The Crux” of the matter by ripping the ill soundscape to shreds!!! We pray for the souls of many before going to bed at night but not even God can save the souls of those they oppose.
