Hits upon hits upon hits! There were many of ’em this week & the crazy part is that most of them didn’t even make the countdown! The staff is still swimming through the Friday flood of volcanic heat so expect to see lots of your faves on the next list. But make no mistake…this countdown delivers the goods & then some!!! 1) There’s a good reason to stay up “Real Late” & it’s all because PETER ROSENBERG, METHOD MAN, RAEKWON & WILLIE THE KID dropped a dope GRAYMATTER laced gem! That Shaolin energy is in full effect as the Wu-Warriors rip rhymes with the Michigan mic beast to give us one of the foremost sonic triumphs of the year! 2) LOCALBLAC & TONE SPLIFF are the team to beat this week & here’s one of the reasons why! “Money Longways” drops listeners directly into the action & finds the ascendant underground spitter pulling lyrical maneuvers over Tone’s highly addictive soundscape! This joint gives us the bounce, boom bap, and verbal intensity we crave from Hip Hop! They do the damn thang & drag the competition thru Hell!!!
3) It’s crunch time & your kid’s gotta get to the game! So what’s a “Soccer Dad” gonna do?!? FATT FATHER answers that question by racing into action on a FOUL MOUTH powered sizzler called “The Commute!” Road rage takes precedence as the super lyricist pushes the pedal to the medal & amps up the intensity with every second! Soon a goofy cop enters the picture & gets him to slow his roll…but it can’t stop the sonic heat from accelerating!
4) While pouring thru an endless sea of audio archives, DRAY YARD uncovered a few “Rugged Gems Made By Rusty Razors!” Book II contains one of the most coveted jewels from the collection and it features DANGO FORLAINE, RONNIE ALPHA, IRON LUNGZ, COCHISE MC & PRIMO JAB! On “Designated Marxmen,” the gun-slinging mic griots get into a High Noon showdown with the opposition & blast their rifle-wielding rivals to bits! There’s a new sheriff in town & it’s Dray Yard. 5) CAPER drops deadly bars & brings in a few friends for a BO FAAT crafted heater called “Hidden Gems!” TAIYAMO DENKU, KARTUNE & CUBAN PETE shower the set with a relentless blast of lyrical savagery and crush a few skulls along the way! There’s a s**tload of broken mics piling up in the booth collected from each MC they slay!
6) LOCALBLAC might be a “Bad Neighbor” but he’s one helluva lyricist! TONE SPLIFF supplies his mic-slaying compadre with a menacing bassline & rugged arrangement that bring all the sinister underpinnings to the surface! Dive into a “Masked Assailants” adventure. 7) AGALLAH triggers a wave of “Agstalgia” by reminding city dwellers that “New York Ain’t The Same!” The reflective gem is a trip through time that highlights the people, places, and events that made The Rotten Apple so unique. Ag transports us into the heart & soul of a once thriving metropolis. Unfortunately, it’s now a mere shell of everything it represented.
8) VIC SPENCER delivers supreme lyricism on an ORIGINAL SUPER LEGEND laced sizzler featuring prize-winning bars by ROC MARCIANO & RANSOM! “Charter Members” is just the kind of joint ya need when you want to kick back & experience a few moments of tranquility. It doesn’t hurt to attach three of the best MCs to the mix. Chill out & experience this new slice of sonic bliss!
9) EL GANT, RAS KASS & PLANET ASIA launch into “O.S.L.O.” action with “Chromed Out” heat powered by J57 & ROB VIKTUM! DJ JON DOE comes thru with killer cuts on this certified banger that spotlights the art of lyricism at its highest level! Check out a supremely dope track with a trio of gods on the mic & enter a new state of nirvana!
10) We wanted to end the countdown on a powerful note so ya know we had to ride out with ASUN EASTWOOD & FINN! On “Crown To Crown,” M.A.V. provides a lyrical assist to the royal proceedings by perfectly complementing Asun’s majestic mic turn. Finn lavishes the set with luxurious soundscapes & highlights 2 lyrical kings who proudly share the underground throne!
