Insomniac Magazine’s Weekly Hip Hop Top Ten 12/28/20

Don’t Sleep On These New Hip Hop Releases

For the last list of this godforsaken year, Insomniac Magazine hits ya with a lineup so explosive it’ll blow ya into the winter months of 2024!!! Get yourself up to speed & tap into our Weekly Top 10!

1) MILANO CONSTANTINE x BODYBAGBEN sure have a helluva way of cappin’ off the year! First they craft a track with the deadliest bars & beats on the underground then they enlist the illustrious PLANET ASIA to lay down the law on “Write It In Blood!” As you can tell by the title, this is murderous music to the max! Milano, Ben, & Asia s**t all over your wack ass career & set themselves up for global domination!

2) JAMIL HONESTY x HXLY SMXKES join forces as “The Rufus Buck Project” to express outrage over centuries of racial oppression on the DJ GRAZZHOPPA featured gem “Rebello!” Hxly Smxkes incites the rhyme revolutionary into action by conjuring a triumphant soundscape that is sure to resonate with the listeners! You’ll be captivated by the fly flows & sonic accoutrements but in this case, it’s truly the content that matters!

3) It’s time to hop in the backseat as 38 SPESH x CHE NOIR take listeners for a ride thru the “Interstate!” There have been many male/female MC collabos but on this track ya shouldn’t expect another ordinary Bonnie & Clyde scenario. What Spesh & Che bring to the table is an impressive chemistry that has been cultivated through years of dedication to their craft. It’s exciting to think about but even more remarkable to hear.

4) LORD JUCO x BOHEMIA LYNCH expose the sheer horror of the holiday season by dropping a “Shadows 3” sizzler featuring FLASHIUS CLAYTON & SKUNKZ called “Staff Picks!” This joint is all about showcasing a superior level of lyricism. Juco, Flashius, and Skunkz punish punks with venomous verses that poison the opposition while Bohemia revels in his gloriously constructed sonic foundation.

5) FLEE LORD x HAVOC team up “In The Name Of Prodigy” & enlist ETO & BILLY V for a street heater titled “Mac In The Engine!” The trifecta of supreme spitters do massive damage to the Mobb Deep icon’s mountainous wall of sound in no time flat. When it comes to mic skills, they’ve got ’em in abundance. You’ll be pumpin’ this from Queensbridge to Cameroon!

6) There are a select few artists who can be called renaissance men within the industry but SAGE ELSESSER (aka NAVY BLUE)takes the cake!!! The man raps, produces, skateboards, draws, models and on the low he probably pilots his own private jet! There are no limits to what he can accomplish…but one more notch in his belt is definitely the EVIDENCE crafted gem “1491!” The “Song Of Sage: Post Panic” cut contains social commentary, reflective rhymes and a big F.U. to Christopher Columbus! This is a high-powered joint that might not check off every box on our wishlist but maaannn, it sure comes pretty damn close!

7) Ya think you’re powerful enough to take on G FAM BLACK x HANZO BLADEZ? Go right ahead. It’s your “Funeral!” The DJ BEN WORKIN laced “Foul Features” banger powers forward with an appropriately morbid atmosphere. G Fam & Hanzo loom over the mic & jab a bloody pen into the eyeball of the opposition. It’s a crime scene waitin’ to happen. And one that’s met with our most fervent approval.

8) AGALLAH should receive an award for his 24/7 commitment to the art & essence of this beloved thing we call Hip Hop. Very few artists can consistently generate the type of high-quality productions he delivers which is proven with his latest release, “The Spirit Of Rakim Kane G Rap!” While the track serves as a nod to those esteemed icons of the culture, it also acts as a reminder of Agallah’s upbringing & origins in the industry. For those who think Da Don is some fly-by-night MC, ya best to do your research! Ag Al Ghul’s stamp on the underground can never be erased. S**t is real. It’s most definitely not a game!

9) INNOCENT? x NEFF BEATZ try to bring “Peace” to mankind without pointin’ a piece at muthaf***as in the process. “The Bartender” (Last Call)banger places us in the center of a frantic, drama-filled audio escapade that Innocent? successfully navigates via his consummate skills on the mic. Tranquility is exactly what’s needed in a world that’s become more chaotic by the day. This joint might not represent the kind of peace you were looking for…but get prepared to be blown away!

10) JOHNNY STORM concludes the countdown with the perfect X-Mas gift for 2020 by taking us back to “Christmas In 99!” Instead of caroling in the streets and presents under the tree, there were robberies & beatdowns aplenty! Ain’t no love in the hood for a fat man on a sleigh who brings the best ish to those on the opposite side of town! Johnny’s deliverin’ an eye jammy to Santa in exchange for what was left in his stocking & shovin’ that lump of coal up Rudolph’s nose!

Well that’s it for this week. Catch ya next time and…DON’T SLEEP!
