Insomniac Magazine’s Weekly Hip Hop Top Ten 2/22/21

Don’t Sleep On These New Releases

Insomniac Magazine returns with another action-packed edition of the Weekly Top Ten! So many dope joints were left on the cutting room floor that we nearly broke our necks tripping over all that heat!!! Maybe some of those gems will make next week’s countdown. Maybe not. But today’s focus is on the illustrious list below!

1) In Hip Hop it doesn’t pay to be humble, so SPODA reminds you he’s the best in the game on the HOBGOBLIN laced heat blast “I’m That Man!” We knew it was a matter of time before the mic ripper took over the #1 spot & that time is NOW! Adding on to the excitement is the incredible DJ JON DOE who provides a hefty dose of spectacular turntable wizardry! The entire “Truth Be Told” platter will go down as a classic. Suckers think they’re makin’ headway in the industry but Spoda’s the one with the master plan!

2) This was a GREAT week for Hip Hop & JAY NICE x MACHACHA’s “A Stream Of Consciousness” platter had plenty to do with it! The mega opus contains wall-to-wall bangers and firmly solidifies Jay as one of the greatest lyrical kings in the game! On “A Renegade Airman” we find the inhuman rhyme deity blowin’ the back out of a minimalistic boom bap beat designed to blast your speakers into oblivion! Machacha knows what ya muthaf***as need & it ain’t no soft s**t! Look elsewhere for spoon-fed tracks cause Jay shoves raw rhymes right down your throat!!!

3) “Crossing The Rubicon” can be a perilous path so ICEROCKS enlists BENNY THE BUTCHER x MEYHEM LAUREN to get blood on the money in “Red Presidents!” The production master is notorious for droppin’ heat but it wouldn’t be a stretch to say this is definitely one of his best tracks to date! Benny & Meyhem absorb the energy of the joint & channel the relentless rhythms into a merciless blast of lyrical fury! It might be fun & games if ya challenge ’em in the booth but put money on the table & you’re gonna get murked!

4) DJ MUGGS x ROME STREETZ created the underground equivalent of Phil Collins’ “In The Air Tonight” by brilliantly crafting an ominous joint that steadily builds in intensity. Difference here is that instead of that earth-shattering drum break shaking things up you get Rome purely using his vocals to do the heavy lifting! The “Death & The Magician” sizzler “Prayers Over Packages” sounds like s**t’s about to pop off any second…and even after the joint finished we had to pinch ourselves to make sure we were still alive. Rome leads fans on a dangerous excursion into unknown territory & we’re lucky Muggs invites us listeners for the ride!

5) Who would win in a “Slam Dunk Contest” between YOUR OLD DROOG, THA GOD FAHIM & PHAROAHE MONCH? It’s impossible to tell because they all brought their A-game to the court! The NOTTZ laced heat rock from “THA YOD FAHIM” album had us shouting from the rafters over the lyrical agility showcased by the underground Olympians. Get your ticket to the action. The season’s sellin’ out fast. Check out the God Level bars from the mic-wielding champions!

6) JAY NICE x ESTEE NACK dish out a backhand slap to all rivals while having “A Slick Conversation” over an opulent MACHACHA laced sonic backdrop! We love the type of slow flow steez that prods a lyricist to toy with the competition before brutally striking them down! The MCs get especially nasty on the track & on a rugged joint like this we wouldn’t have it any other way. It wouldn’t be a Top 10 list if they weren’t on it. We acknowledge that fact and make sure they’re rewarded!

7) ROME STREETZ x TEK filter the creative chemistry showcased on the original version of “Glory” into an ethereal NEF crafted gem titled “Glory, Pt. 2!” The joy derived from this magnificently constructed joint comes from picking out the nuances in the subtly evolving soundscape while simultaneously marveling over the ingenious rhyme schemes expertly delivered by the high-powered duo! Now let’s bring it back to basics & cut out all the high brow crap. This crew will stomp out all ya weak ass punks!!!

8) There’s no stopping THE QUARTER INCH KINGS & ZAGNIF NORI! Each week they shower the listeners with an overabundance of heat & now the pot’s boiling over with “Excellence Of Execution!” The track kicks off with a commanding WWE sound bite that instantly alerts our senses. Immediately afterward, we’re ushered into the arena by a hypnotic groove faintly reminiscent of O.C’s classic “Times Up!” When the team gets down to business no one can touch ’em. They’ve been anointed to rule the underground and forever shall they reign!

9) When you’re “From The Concrete” the only thing that matters is survival! POPOFF & BIG TWINS successfully navigated through the trenches & now they detail their struggle on a BVTMAN powered sonic explosive. Both MCs excel in building their narratives & flaunt a guttural delivery that works perfectly with the grimy underpinnings of the track. This joint’s a triumph in every sense of the word which is what happens when 2 mavericks of the underground unite!

10) We’re sending you off with MASSIVE heat this week!!! JAE HUSSLE x STR8 BANGAZ combined forces for a supreme blast of symphonic steez on a breathtaking banger titled “Who I Am!” This is the first taste of the meticulous craftsmanship these creative entities will be bringing to the table on their “Con$ciou$ Money” project…and after one listen you’ll be begging for more! Jae’s lyrical expertise combined with Bangaz’ immaculate production is high quality art. It’s what the underground’s been waitin’ for!!!

Well that’s it for this week. Catch ya next time and…DON’T SLEEP!
