Insomniac Magazine’s Weekly Hip Hop Top Ten 4/20/20

Don’t Sleep On These New Hip Hop Releases

Insomniac Magazine blows the lid off the underground with our latest installment of Top 10 excitement. Strap in for the ride & blaze a new path of adventure below!

1) WEAPON E.S.P., GHOST OF THE MACHINE & RECKONIZE REAL have been on the countdown 3 weeks in a row & now they’ve clawed their way to the top on a mind-bending mega-heater called “Brainchild!” The game needs a mass exodus of wack emcees that need to exit this and SAVAGELAND’s steppin’ up to purge them from society! What tools are they equipped with to exterminate these rapping rodents? High grade beats & bars of course! Imagine a world where mic skills are the only thing that matter then salute this crew for being a cut above the rest!

2) DANGO FORLAINE, THA GOD FAHIM & LEFT LANE DIDON congregate for a “Summit At The Triplex” assembled by production mastermind RONNIE ALPHA! The transcendent power heater provides the perfect launchpad for a lyrical onslaught & that’s exactly what you get! Haters gon’ hate & ballers gon’ ball but that’s never stopped a true MC from spittin’! Most of you are well aware of TGF & Lefty’s brilliance in the booth. NOW it’s time to focus your attention on Dango who fires bars into the astral plane with supreme confidence(“F**k the bulls**t/a n***a life was headed towards the pulpit/unexpected drops in my path/like a pool dip/waitin’ for God’s cue like a poolstick/waitin’ like John Q in the ER wit’ a full clip…”)….WHEW!!! That’s Hip Hop baby! The underground lives on.

3) Regal rhyme slayers KING AUTHOR x ZAGNIF NORI surprise fans with a CHUCK CHAN crafted gem called “Noble Network!” The HiSpeed Network & NobleScity generals cover a lot of ground in a brief period of time & if you weren’t aware of their mic skills beforehand this track will set you straight! The magnitude of their lyrical abilities is not to be slept on so don’t get caught slippin’ again! King Author & Zagnif Nori are at the forefront of a new Hip Hop renaissance. All others better back down!

4) WESTSIDE GUNN & DJ PREMIER are both masters of minimalism who make magic whenever they join forces! On “Shawn Vs Flair” the Flygod’s bars are brief but effective. In fact, Gunn’s history in the game has never really focused on what he was saying but HOW it was being said. His voice & flows are so compelling that it forces you to listen. While Gunn finesses the track, Premo supplies a bare bones structure that outshines a legion of producers who try to impress listeners with overblown arrangements. This is that head nod s**t that keeps us coming back for more. Griselda’s got the championship belt & ain’t no one snatching it away!

5) Some people embarrass themselves with tough talk & hollow words while others let their actions speak for themselves. DNTE is in the latter category as he proves once again on his self-produced heater “Danguard Ace”. The lyrical & production phenom pulls up a seat at the table & always comes prepared with a sonic feast. When the pressure’s on he’s at his best…so foes & fake friends can get the middle finger! Top 10, Top 5, Top 2…none of it f***in’ matters. The list don’t make the man & DNTE’s destined for success!

6) “Pray For Paris” & send your condolences to the competition because WESTSIDEGUNN, BENNY, & CONWAY just entered your town! “Allah Sent Me” showcases the GxFR trifecta at the peak of their powers over an unstoppable DARINGER beat. It’s just another day at the office as the crew rip rhymes while recalling the wild days of their past. You don’t need to be on social media to know what they bring to the table. All you need to know is that they’re taking over!

7) BODYBAGBEN’s “Controlled Substance” joint was an eleventh hour drop so dope that it had our staff teleconferencing like a muthaf***a for its inclusion on the Top 10! As you can see, all that lobbying paid off because the DOAMPEACE, XP THE MARXMAN & ILLWERD featured heat blast now resides comfortably in a coveted slot. The first thing we hear is a sprawling piano loop that immediately catches our attention before the beat explodes into action. By the time the power spittin’ pugilists step in the ring we already know s**t’s about to go down! The flow’s are ill & the crew’s got flavor! Now check out the brand new sounds!

8) ESTEE NACK x PLANET ASIA shield the underground from wack beats & rhymes on the 38 SPESH powered joint “Force Field! The “Army Of Trust II” heater bounces along with a funky swing reminiscent to Raekwon’s classic “Ice Cream” cut…but best believe, there’s nothin’ sweet about this s**t! It’s straight up gutter, concrete lyricism that smacks ya up then shakes you down. Nacky Chan & Asia show no mercy when they enter the booth. They’re “rap’s Top 10 cuttin’ off your oxygen” with a firm chokehold on the industry!

9) Elusive producer DARK ARTS brings listeners into the middle of a “Coke War” but don’t panic…DANIEL SON, ASUN EASTWOOD & SCOTT G’s got ya back! It doesn’t take long to discover that something sinister’s going on. When that menacing bassline kicks in it should give you every reason to worry! The lyrical titans speak with measured tones to put your mind at ease but it’s gonna be a long night & you probably ain’t comin’ home!

10) Ahhh yeahhhh, we had to leave ya wit’ a banger!! R.A. THE RUGGED MAN’s CENK COKER, THE KICKDRUMS & C-LANCE laced heat blast “The Slayer’s Club”(featuring M.O.P., VINNIE PAZ, CHRIS RIVERS, ONYX, CHINO XL, BRAND NUBIAN & ICE- T)literally slid in at the last minute to knock another contender off the list & one listen will show you exactly why! The earth-shattering soundscape is stacked with enough sonic curveballs to keep you highly entertained & each legend brought his A-Game to the set. R.A. may feel that all of his heroes are dead but YOURS are spittin’ on the track right alongside him!

Well that’s it for this week. Catch ya next time and…DON’T SLEEP!
