Insomniac Magazine’s Weekly Hip Hop Top Ten 5/20/19

Don’t Sleep On These New Hip Hop Releases

Insomniac Magazine received so much heat in the inboxes that you’re all but assured there will be a massive spillover into next week! For now, check out the Top 10 explosives detonating throughout the list below. If you survive the wreckage, play ’em all again and blast yourself into sonic Hip Hop nirvana!

1) DREDI casually dropped off an ETO x FASTLIFE featured banger called “Old Yankees” like it was no big deal and ended up delivering one of the best joints we’ve heard all year! The UK based production maverick conjures a new form of underground euphoria by injecting his sonic alchemy into a hypnotic joint equipped with a funky swing & HEAVY replay value! Eto takes full advantage of the situation by BECOMING the track! He saddles up to the rhythms and cascades around the atmospheric arrangements with the dexterity of a track star! FastLife then gets all grimy on dat ass as he spits fire on some raw f**k you s**t! Check out the colossal crew as they knock ’em out the park for a homerun heater that will remain undefeated!

2) How many heavy hitters can you put on a track seems to be the question TOADMILK’S JAKPROGRESSO x ALOEIGHT were asking when they enlisted DARK LO, RJ PAYNE, TRISTATE, BENNY THE BUTCHER & CONWAY THE MACHINE for their new banger “Mortifying!” Sometimes a crowded playing field can lead to a chaotic mess but that’s definitely NOT the case here! A twisted musical nursery rhyme leads to dark bars of destruction as each emcee shreds the sinister soundscape with a no-holds barred lyrical onslaught of the ages. RJ Payne says: “I murder the Top 10 then the bottom five!” He’s gotdamn right!!! Lord forgive you if you don’t believe him!

3) All our Hip Hop dreams have been fulfilled because DJ PREMIER teamed up with WESTSIDE GUNN, CONWAY & BENNY for a hardcore heat blast called “Headlines!” What’s interesting about this track is that it gets better with each play. The first time we heard it our staff gave the joint an instant thumbs up. The second time, everyone kept mouthing the words. The third time our heads were nodding uncontrollably & now we all gather ’round the stereo like sonic dope fiends looking for our next Premo/GxFR fix! Premier cooked up this intoxicating batch of audio crack to perfection(which is par for the course when it comes to this living legend). Gunn, Conway, and Benny clearly know what their audience wants & they never hesitate to give it to ’em. They keep feedin’ us that fly s**t and we’ll ensure it’s all consumed!

4) COCAREEF has been consistently building up an impressive body of work but if “Diamonds In The Rough” is any indication, the underground assassin’s upcoming “HEAT” album will be his best project yet! First off, the line up on this joint is ridiculous!!! JAMIL HONESTY, MICAH WRITE, SEDIZZY, LUPUS DEI, WHATA MESS, and AMBISHOUZ lick a shot for the block and make sure each one of their moments on the track COUNT! That’s rare these days. No bulls**t. No throwaway lines just added to collect a check. NAH. These muthaf***as are doing this s**t for the love of it & we love ’em for it in return! Hearing a collective this hungry & passionate will bring fear to the hearts of the competition & a tear to the eye of Hip Hop lovers everywhere. All praises due to Rob Deniro for his expert sonic craftsmanship on this gem. Diamonds In The Rough may be the name of this song but the crew’s FOREVER shinin’!!!

5) NEMS recounts his wild past & industry fails on the Jazzsoon powered “Gorilla Monsoon” heater “Heavy Metal!” The ill lyricist delivers the ultimate origin story as he reflects on drug-fueled days composed of rap battles & violent acts galore! Every missed opportunity can lead to a road paved with success if one chooses the right path to walk on. Nems wisely determines a positive direction for his future & takes us along for the ride!

Don’t sleep on Insomniac Magazine’s podcast, “Sounds from the Underground.” Be sure to subscribe on your favorite podcast app, so you get new episodes directly on your mobile device.

6) PEARL HARBA spazzes on the mic over a Stan Da Man powered banger called “Repping Time!” The BK bar slinger recalls the days when his crew rolled DEEP & ruled the streets with a party & bulls**t mentality. The grind was relentless & all codes were unspoken. Now the spitter’s in a position to move mountains because he never gave up on his dreams. Backed by Stan’s astounding audio achievement, the duo will first take over the industry then branch out to conquer the world!

7) KOOL KEITH joins forces with Cypress Hill’s B-REAL for a monstrous mega-banger crafted by Psycho Les of The Beatnuts! “Zero Fux” finds the space-travelling super spitter coming down to earth to bury the competition who dare question his royal birthright to the underground throne! When three legends unite on a track you have no choice but to bow down & pay your respects. Even if you don’t it doesn’t matter. They don’t give a f**k about you so accept your ass whooping & move out their way!

8) SPODA x WAVY DA GHAWD team up to leave n***as petrified as they go all “Full Court Press” on muthaf***as for a dope ass power banger called “On A Roll!” The lyrical mastermind & production juggernaut are in full possession of the streets as they transmit an endless blast of heat from every crack, corner, and crevice of the city! The beats & rhymes hit so hard you might end up with a concussion! Step aside, let ’em do what they do, and watch your dreams fade away in sorrow. Make a bold move & challenge them & best believe you won’t see tomorrow.

9) It’s serious business as BIGBOB, MIC HANDZ, MILANO CONSTANTINE & LDON THE CUT terrorize all opposition on “Cause For Concern!” The ominous soundscape is one of BigBob’s best creations to date! His sonic pot is boiling over with heat further intensified by scorching star turns in the booth by Mic & Milano! You get the feeling that the emcees are throwing you down on the pavement & pressing their Timbs firmly on your neck. The verbal executioners slice & dice the competition. Watch your head or LDon will cut it off!

10) GHOSTFACE KILLAH & RZA channel the grimey 90’s & smack New Jacks up with that classic Wu-Tang sound cause they’re “On That Sh*t Again!” The “Of Mics And Men” master cut powered by DJ Scratch provides the perfect sonic accompaniment to their expansive Showtime documentary. Not only does it capture the raw essence of the men & their music but it also shines light on an era so golden modern artists are still chasing that unique moment in time today!

Well that’s it for this week. Catch ya next time and…DON’T SLEEP!
