Insomniac Magazine’s Weekly Hip Hop Top Ten 5/29/23

Don’t Sleep On These New Releases

Insomniac Magazine’s Weekly Top Ten serves as a reminder that authentic Hip Hop will reign forever! Gear up for action & tap in below!!!

1) AGALLAH & POPOFF team up as “The Table” & drop an explosive EP featuring one of the most exciting cuts to hit the underground in awhile!!! “Dave Chappelle” comes barreling out the gates with an ill arrangement as electrifying and unpredictable as its namesake! A cacophony of clashing sounds coincides with Ag’s introductory warning of things to come, followed by Popoff’s lethal lyrical attack & The Don Bishop’s brutal verbal beatdown!!! Y’all hear those swirling keys, simmering bassline, and savage bars?!? That’s Hip Hop baby & The Table’s servin’ it RAW!!!

2) DIBIASI, RANSOM & ALBEE AL get into some “Risky Business” over an ETO powered soundscape from the new opus “Once Upon A Crime!” The dangerous mic assassins waste no time diving into the infectiously high-powered cut! Dibiasi pimps the track while b***hes wait in line for action, Terminator Ran exterminates everything in sight & Al comes across like Laurence Fishburne’s Jimmy Jump character from King of New York! He blasts the opposition to oblivion while maniacally laughing all the way to the bank!!!

3) JROBERTS & MICKEY DIAMOND got the “Street Locked” with a BODYBAGBEN constructed sizzler that will make the most menacing miscreant catch the next flight out of town!!! J sets things off with a nasal flow & vitriolic verse before Mickelas Cage bodies the earth’s very terrain!!! The Umbrella bar messiah dominates Ben’s brilliantly crafted production and gears up to shut down your entire block!!!

4) We thought we knew what hardcore was & then we heard “Casket Suit” and realized we didn’t know s**t!!! BUB STYLES, SAUCE HEIST & DOT DEMO wreak havoc across a RETROSPEC crafted sonic behemoth that will force you to bow down & anoint them kings of the underground!!! There’s a homicide happenin’ tonight & it begins with them murderin’ the track!!!

5) SPODA is “Still The Most” heralded lyricist on the underground & this VSTHEBEST215 laced slice of audio ecstasy proves he hasn’t missed a beat!!! Tippin’ his cap to the legendary Keith Murray, Mr. Dope Flow proceeds to spray the set with an onslaught of breathtaking bars! The most beautifullest thing in this world is Hip Hop & Spoda’s got the game on lock!

6) AL-DOE x SPANISH RAN ain’t condonin’ none of that sucker s**t so they gun down weak ass rivals on new heat from “Holy City Zoo!” “Coi Leray” conjures imagery of inmates escaping an asylum and inciting mass carnage around town! Al spews gloriously violent verses for our sonic satisfaction while Ran chops up victims with power chords & tosses ’em in the wood chipper outside!

7) RANSOM & NICHOLAS CRAVEN make music at the highest level which is why we couldn’t make a countdown without including the “Director’s Cut 4” centerpiece, “Rise Of The Machines!” There’s already a shrine of Ransom in the home of every Hip Hop Head’s household, so you know the bars go beyond your wildest imagination. But it’s Craven who throws us a curveball by trading in his trademark soul-fueled production for an apocalyptic audio arrangement that signals the impending end of civilization!

8) CERTAIN.ONES keep the competition “Disoriented” with one of their most powerful joints to date(and for this crew that’s saying a lot)!!! Lyrical trailblazers BOBBY CRAVES, RAW THESUS, and AZTEK THE BARFLY set the booth ablaze by dropping an endless wealth of coveted gems over WANN SKLOBI’s unparalleled production! If you feel off-kilter that’s a good thing. #theones wouldn’t have it any other way!

9) J SCIENIDE & DAMU THE FUDGEMUNK engage in some top tier stream of consciousness lyricism guaranteed to crush the competition! “You’re A Sitting Duck” is a funky tour de force of audio excellence that gets major points for its minimalist aesthetic. It’s amazing what two men and a drum machine can do. But we’re kidding ourselves because J & Damu have always been 20,000 leagues above the merest of mortals!

10) CHUBS is surfin’ the waves of a flawless MACHACHA laced soundscape that promises to create ripples throughout the underground! While the mic slayer & production overlord are sailing the high seas, they can’t help but notice that many rappers are drowning! Instead of sending a life raft, Chubs throws up a middle finger and watches all the lifeless bodies drift away. “Liquid Death” contains clever “ocean of life” metaphors expertly showcased by the rising MC. He has a clear path for success with Machacha navigating the journey.

Well that’s it for this week. Catch ya next time and…DON’T SLEEP!
