Insomniac Magazine’s Weekly Hip Hop Top Ten 8/16/21

Don’t Sleep On These New Releases

Insomniac Magazine keeps ya updated with all the underground action on the Weekly Top Ten! Get set for excitement & tap in below!

1) So let’s get something straight. BENNY THE BUTCHER can record an entire EP in one day, have it sit on the shelf for 3 years & still “Flood The Block” with an endless supply of HEAT when it’s finally released?!? Well that’s exactly what happened with his RARE SCRILLA & CHOP LA ROK laced “Pyrex Picasso” mega platter! Funny that the name Picasso’s in the title because this project’s nothing short of a masterpiece! On track #2 in particular, Benny bears down on a rock-fueled arrangement and refuses to let go as he shreds the soundscape with an onslaught of stellar rhymes! The only thing left to say is that the opposition better not go outside. They’ll drown under the destructive force of Benny & never be seen again!!!

2) LET THE DIRT SAY AMEN flips all of that over-excessive drug talk on its head with the “God Hates Gucci” banger “Just Say Dope!” Fueled by clever lyricism & powerful production, the track ensures all listeners will be feenin’ for more! This is one addiction without consequences. It’s a positive Hip Hop joint that’s still decidedly hardcore!

3) The GODFATHER OF HARLEM soundtrack provides more raw intensity for the listeners in the form of the WESTSIDE GUNN & FABOLOUS featured joint “Brick After Brick!” AVENUE BEATZ & SWIZZ BEATZ are behind the boards for this menacing slice of stellar steez that showcases some tight “in the pocket” flows from two of Hip Hop’s Finest! If ya want to get that cash be prepared to take extreme measures. Gunn & Fab will guide you to the dark side of the road!

4) AGALLAH has been known as a villain, a don, and an assassin. But his most important title is the creator of “High Level Art!” A prime example of his craftsmanship can be found on the superior sonic sizzler “Running Base!” From the jazzy, nostalgic backdrop to Ag’s razor sharp delivery, fans are treated to the underground vet’s astounding expertise at every turn! Word around the way is that the mic champ is considering retiring. But when you’re THIS talented there’s no reason to ever leave the game!

5) THE MUSALINI & BLANNCO put in a lot of hard work to make s**t look easy! The mic beasts run laps around a supremely funky JOSE CIENFUEGOS laced joint that’s “Worth Gold” in an industry filled with plastic wannabes. Flossin’ over a track might seem like something every rapper does…and you’d be right. The difference here is that THESE MCS have actual skills! Ill technique combined with money, cars, and lavish living. GOTDAMN, this crew’s really got it all!

6) Every Friday the 13th, AZTEK THE BARFLY reemerges from the tomb to snatch the souls of wayward virgins in distress! He also snatches mics from suckers & beats them senseless which is where Insomniac enters the picture. On “1984,” we heard the rustling in the woods & knew some muthaf***a would be standing behind us rockin’ a hockey mask. What we DIDN’T know was that murder could be so much fun!!! The way Aztek eviscerated each MC in his path had us cheering his every move…and we even did our part to help with the body bags. The opposition were zipped up & dumped in Camp Crystal Lake as NEC NYMBL’s dope track kept the party jumpin’!

7) OG ABORIGINES & DEZMATIC get “FUTURE PRIMITIVE” on dat ass with a surplus of heat called “Strong Hair!” The joint instantly kicks into action with some SQUIRES laced audio steez that nearly pushes the earth to the edge of extinction! Dez & RAPSWELL do massive damage to the track & the atmosphere gives way as we hold on to the planet for dear life! You got sucked from reality into a vortex of sound! Now unzip your human suit & PRESS PLAY!

8) CROTONA P & M DOC DIEGO springboard off (DBTZ of)MANZU BEATZ’s super-charged production & make the ground shake on “Family Tree!” This joint has a dope throwback vibe that will remind you of the days when nothing mattered more than your crew. P & M Doc come equipped with the lyrical firepower to captivate our attention & push the ill joint over the top!

9) B LEAFS could easily construct multi-layered tracks that convey far-ranging moods & emotions…but sometimes the best approach to production is simplicity. That’s the strategy the beat-maker goes for with this cut & the end result is pure magic! On the SKYZOO & JAY ROYALE featured “Do Believe,” the lyricists wax nostalgic on an arrangement that recalls a laid back summer afternoon. You can envision kids playing outside while the spitters drop gems that will never go out of style. “If Hip Hop was dead then death is arisen.” Listen up & you’ll see that’s clearly the case here!

10) When ya start strong ya better end strong! That’s how we felt about this week’s countdown. And there was no crew stronger to close out with than FLYYGHOST, CA$ABLANCA & NOWAAH THE FLOOD! “Ghost Charriots” finds DA FLYY HOOLIGAN & TESLA’S GHOST embarking on another fly caper & enlisting their U.S. based rhyme counterparts to assist them in maximum carnage! The G.I. laced production sounds like you’re right in the center of a military battlefield…and best believe these lyricists are droppin’ plenty of bombs!!!

Well that’s it for this week. Catch ya next time and…DON’T SLEEP!
