Insomniac Magazine drops a new list of gems for the Weekly Top Ten. The summer might be over, but the heat isn’t. Then, tell your fellow music compatriots this is where the genuine underground movement is and has been since 1996.
1) SKYZOO & PETE ROCK bumrush the chart with a high-powered WESTSIDE GUNN, CONWAY, BENNY THE BUTCHER & ELZHI featured heater called “Eastern Conference All-Stars!” We already expected the “Retropolitan” project to be some mind-blowin’ s**t…but then Sky & Pete had to hit us with a cut so MONSTROUS it wouldn’t settle for anything less than the #1 spot! Bars on this banger are f***in’ RIDICULOUS!!! The joint even ends with a speech from Martin Luther King Jr.
Plenty of rappers have a dream…but they’ll never be as dope as the emcees who bodied this track!!!
2) Just when ya thought you were safe, CERTAIN.ONES bring DANGER to the underground with a new banger called “FAZE ONE!” SCRIPZ, BOBBY CRAVES, and FERAL SERGE keep your senses at high alert while NETO gets insane with the perilous production! Mind-blowin’ bars are what you can expect from the ill collective so amp yourself up for an overload of action. Time to get down on the stomping grounds! F**k your couch, get on the floor & PRESS PLAY!
3) If you want to know what CONWAY became look no further than the Daringer powered triumph “Tito’s Back” featuring BENNY & WESTSIDE GUNN. Over production that can only be described as PURE EVIL, The Machine & The Butcher slaughter EVERYTHING that steps in their path! Don’t even ask about Gunn because he don’t gotta rap! WSG throws in dope ad-libs & oversees the action. Just be grateful The Flygod graced you with his presence! Now back to the beginning…what did Conway become? King of the Underground & y’all muthaf***as’ worst nightmare!!!
4) M.A.V. & DANIEL SON join forces for “Dust 2 Dust” explosive heat produced by Cotola! “Pusher” serves up immaculate bars & arrangements that allow listeners to tap directly into the pipeline of the streets. The production conjures south of the border activity that will seem exhilarating…’TIL THE GUNS COME OUT!!! When the needle drops your head starts noddin’! Bodies keep falling by the wayside but it’s just another day in the life.
5) STAHHR shines brighter than the sun on Finsta powered brilliance titled “Chest Piece!” The underground was long overdue for this type of heat…and Thank God the lyrical queen is here to distribute a steady supply! Over production obviously hand delivered by archangels from heaven, the honey-coated assassin drops gems! A full treasure trove of ’em to be exact. There’s no denying she’s better than your favorite rapper’s favorite rapper. R.I.P. to all her rivals!
6) SUPREME CEREBRAL x ROB VIKTUM kick off the impending release of their “Hattori Hanzo” collabo project with the sinister sounds of “Street Science!” Bugzy Nino breaks down the inner mechanics of the underworld in such a mesmerizing fashion that it’ll leave you hanging onto his every word. Rob ratchets up the tension behind the boards. Beware the fiends lurking by your door!
7) RAS KASS reunites with his JAMO GANG fam EL GANT & J57 for “Soul On Ice 2” heat called “Gingivitis!” Funky production pours forth from your speakers & spurs a lyrical lynching of the competition. Rivals try to run & hide but fall prey to the squad’s savage attack! You better talk that s**t & pay attention to the rhymes when this crew’s in town. Mumble rap causes gum disease so leave that crap alone & PRESS PLAY!
8) DEUCE HENNESSY x LUPUS DEI “Came Wit A Plan” and FREE MIND made sure it was executed! The lyrical lethal weapons take us back to their origins & detail the lessons learned along the path to greatness. CHUCK CHAN accents the action with cuts that transmit a sense of maternal comfort. Free Mind constructs a powerful sonic road map that guide us through an intensely emotional ride.
9) FALCON OUTLAW x THEREALSKITSO deliver a High Heat experience for the world to witness! With tightly constructed production & solid rhymes to boot, the duo lure us into the heart of darkness. “Who’s The Mack” lays down the pimp game before SPOILER ALERT…revealing that we’re all hos in our own way! Cars, money, p***y, POWER? Ya say these things don’t own you but you’re still out there workin’ the track!
10) We’ve heard plenty of tracks from the seeds of our favorite emcees & 98% of them are straight GAHBAGE! But then this STATIK SELEKTAH produced joint from SONNY DIXON turned up in our inbox & we’ve gotta admit the kid is something special! Grand Puba’s son is a revelation on the mic! There are no pop rap leanings or juvenile antics present in his delivery…It’s just pure bars and a self-assured flow! The rich texture of Sonny’s vocals keep us compelled to his every word & Statik gifts him with a stellar soundscape worthy of his rising stature. Growing up as the son of one of the most skilled emcees in the game obviously rubbed off on the shining star in the making. He possesses that “God Body Tendency” that always steals the show!
