Insomniac Magazine’s Weekly Hip Hop Top Ten 6/29/20

Don’t Sleep On These New Releases

Insomniac Magazine heats up the underground with the latest edition of the Weekly Top Ten! Gear up for action & check out the list below!

1) BODYPING drops a supreme offering from his upcoming EP in the form of the BORVOE MCMIDNITE featured title track “Based On A True Story!” We’re first presented with boulder smashing shockwaves & ruthless rhythms that reverberate throughout our sound system. The MC of the Night then descends upon the set to strike fear in the hearts of mere mortals who dare to pick up the mic. Bodyping follows suit with “body shots felt around the block” to deliver the summer smackdown we’ve all been waiting for. This might be too hardcore for some. If you can’t handle it stay home & hide!

2) SUBSTANCE810 teams up with ROME STREETZ & DANIEL SON for the apex of sonic excitement called “The Rising!” “The Definition Of…” stand out cut finds the power trio ascending to new heights as they drop imposing bars over a triumphant soundscape accented by DJ GRAZZHOPPA’s turntable artistry. There’s no question in our minds that you’ll have this one on rotation the entire season. Listen for yourself & see why they came out on top!

3) TERROR VAN POO, INNOCENT? & VINNY IDOL “Represent” with a ROYAL FLUSH featured master gem from their top shelf “Trifecta” project! Latin rhythms embedded with boom bap propel the momentum forward as each lyricist eviscerates the track with deadly flows aplenty! Many artists claim to exemplify the essence of real Hip Hop…but no one represents like they do!

4) We don’t usually include freestyles on the Top 10 but JAMAL GASOL’s latest heat blast was too ill to be ignored! As the Dirty Waters mic destroyer weaves his illustrious wordplay, The STANDOUTS deliver a hardcore landscape awash in sinister, broken chords of sonic destruction! “Stir The Pot Freestyle Part 6” is everything you need to deal with the everyday struggle. Y’all know we can’t wait for Part 7!

5) BUB STYLES x ESTEE NACK combine forces for an ACE FAYCE laced production called “Dope Smokers Anonymous!” The grimy rhyme lords attack the track with unbridled fury while Ace shatters your speakers with the hardest beats you’ll hear all week! This is what authentic Hip Hop’s all about. Get set for excitement & tap in below!

6) APOLLO BROWN x CHE NOIR have supplied a continuous streak of dope singles from their upcoming “As God Intended” project! “Worth Gold” is the latest sizzler to emerge & once again we find the collaborative heavy hitters in peak form. Every rhyme Che spits is worth its weight in gold. Apollo Brown’s immaculate soundscapes add luster to the lyrical proceedings!

7) STAHHR appeared on the countdown last week with “Barbarella”…but another joint from her “No Doubts” maxi single made us come back for more! On the CRAZY DJ BAZARRO powered heater “Mother’s Milk,” the lyrical empress expresses her frustration & disgust over the senseless murders of black people at the hands of the police. As these tragedies threaten to weigh down her spirit, StaHHr uplifts the community with wise words of empowerment. Instead of leaving any room for ambiguity, she offers concrete solutions on effectively navigating through the treacherous terrain of systemic racism. As she drops jewel after jewel, Bazarro matches her intensity with an onslaught of sonic activity behind the boards. “Take back your birthright/treat Mother Earth right.” Sip from the elixir of truth & PRESS PLAY!

8) ROB VIKTUM amps up the action on a FASTLIFE, BORN UNIQUE & DJ JON DOE featured power heater called “Pharmacy Grade.” The “Ironside” banger makes its impact felt with a slow-rolling groove & fly cuts that serve up a steady supply of funk. Fastlife & Born Unique showcase their top tier bar game & commit to the fullest! This is uncut dope. Now take a hit below!

9) VLXL level “The Playing Field” with an incendiary powder keg about the crooked nature of “The Boys in Blue.” The track thrives on a menacing, minimalistic energy that places the observational bars front & center of the action. “The peace sign mean I come in peace. It got a striking resemblance to the other piece.” You’ll be on the edge of your seat the entire three minute runtime!

10) BOBBY J FROM ROCKAWAY & HUSH get back to basics with hard beats & raw rhymes for a massive banger called “Monsters Are Due On Maple Street!” The MCs survey the apocalyptic existence they’re presently immersed in & vow to create an army of like-minded entities to overthrow the powers that be! If anyone possesses the perseverance it takes to transform the world it’s these two supreme spitters. No monster can withstand their savagery on the mic. All beasts entering the temple will be slain.

Well that’s it for this week. Catch ya next time and…DON’T SLEEP!
