When you want to check out the best underground Hip Hop, there’s only one place to go…Insomniac’s Weekly Top Ten! We could ramble on & on but we know what you REALLY want. It’s dope beats & rhymes, so don’t waste any time. Just look at the list below…
1) It’s a Detroit takeover as TY FARRIS joins forces with NOLAN THE NINJA, A-MINUS & DJ SOKO for the Trox produced banger, “N.W.C.R.”(N***as Who Can Rap). Raw energy, hardcore lyrics and super-charged cuts take precedence on this behemoth of a collabo that feels like Hip Hop on steroids! It’s one of those joints you play to motivate yourself to win! These heavyweights in the game are proving themselves to be unstoppable!
2) Queens spitter, TRUTH, rode a JK1 The Supernova produced track featuring high-powered scratches from PF Cuttin & dope bars laced by the late, lyrically gifted, SEAN PRICE to the top of our list with “New Type Of Something.” It’s a sonic treat from the emcee’s forthcoming LP, “From Ashes To Kingdom Come,” that foreshadows serious heat for Hip Hop heads worldwide. Old or new, this track is the type of somethin’ we love!
3) New Mexico’s WAKE SELF enlisted MILES BONNY, MA DUKES, DJ YOUNG NATIVE & EMILIO SEMIHAZAH for his heartfelt homage to Golden Era Hip Hop on “I Still Love Her.” The top quality content and infectious groove will draw true heads to the track AND to the emcee himself. This is an artist who deserves to be rewarded for creatively acknowledging the past as he continues to craft great music for today’s dedicated fans. We’re sending him accolades now by placing the lyricist on the Top 10 & extend that honor to Phillip Torres & Josh Goble – the brilliant minds behind his outstanding video.
4) #TheWinners never fail…hence the name. ROZEWOOD literally arrived with this track at the last minute to bump off a highly worthy artist & snatch up his spot! “On My Own” is produced by can’t miss behind the boards powerhouse, DJ Skizz, who laces the lyrical titan with a soul-drenched gem that ensures constant replay action. Rozewood may be part of one of the dopest Hip Hop collectives around, but he does just fine on his own!
5) KILLA KALI is back on our countdown again. Has he ever left? One of the most exciting lyricists in the game knows that when somethin’ ain’t broke, don’t fix it…so of course he enlisted colossal production juggernauts, DirtyDiggs, to play like Top Chef & chop up some “Zucchini.” Don’t even worry about the ingredients that went into the making of this tasty platter. Just expect the end result to be simply delicious!
6) “Gold Pots” might be a WESTSIDE GUNN track, but he self-assuredly steps aside to let CONWAY & MACH HOMMY take over the spotlight on this Daringer produced head nodder. Grimey…raw…unabashedly hardcore…That’s what we love about the Griselda soldiers…and that’s exactly what they deliver! Few crews possess this level of consistency. We respect Gunn & Co. for stayin’ on the grind and always bringin’ the heat!
7) KXNG CROOKED is pissed off at a few blog sites, so hopefully he won’t mind being included on our Weekly Top 10. I mean, we had to do it! His latest collabo with STATIK KXNG partner, STATIK SELEKTAH was just too dope to ignore. Teaming up with lyrical beast, TERMANOLOGY, only made a great song even greater…So get yourself in gear and “Lets Go!”
8) D.I.T.C. & producer J Clyde continue their winning streak with “Diggin Number.” AG…OC…FAT JOE…They’re all here! When you want to find out where it all started from, check The Foundation!
9) NIKO IS doesn’t “f**k with that new s**t. To him it’s saturated.” That’s for sure! Luckily the emcee brought that ol’ thang back with the KRIKOS produced, “Lions & Hyenas.” This track contains the kind of classic soul that can’t be contained. You know the title of the joint, but make no mistake…NIKO IS & KRIKOS are the real BEASTS ya gotta watch out for!
10) DAWN DIVINO is affiliated with #TheWinners & it shows in the stellar production & lyrics highlighted on KROWNJEWELS. This is BOOM BAP heaven for underground heads. Around these parts we like it hardcore…Dawn Divino delivers!
Well that’s it for this week. Catch ya next time and…DON’T SLEEP!
