Atlanta’s own Dontavius Linwood, also known as Jetset Da Future, is an upcoming artist who is currently based out of Atlanta, GA, and is steadily making a name for himself. The young emcee describes his music as a “chill lofi and R&B sound.” Jetset Da Future’s said in a recent interview that he came up with his artist name after listening to the soundtrack of Jet Set Radio Future. He believed that the soundtrack became influential to his sound and notes all video games as an instrumental “role in how [his] sound” formed.
“The soundtrack from the game is what inspired my name, because its music is so diverse and funky,” he says. “If you ever get a chance. I highly suggest you play it, it’s for the OG Xbox.”
During the interview, Jetset Da Future looked back at the first time he took music more seriously, stating that it was around his senior year of high school when he did a freestyle at his pep-rally was when it hit him.
“The now-famous Lil Yachty at the time was telling me ‘bro you a legend, you finna blow up.'”
Jetset said that music is a euphoric experience for him. The two things that inspire him are his daughter and motivating people. His music has saved people from committing self-harm, and to Jetset, that means everything. Jetset described music as a “universal language.”
“It has helped me through the darkest of times,” he said. “It has helped me express my love for myself and others around me.”
Further, Jetset talked about how music has influenced and inspired him, from artists like Sade, Koji Kondo, Michael Jackson, Wiz Khalifa, Doja Cat, Amerie, Missy Elliot, Anita Baker, Nujabes, Cibo Matto, Hideki Naganuma. Noting that his unique sound is influenced by video games, his inspirations are not limited to the list above, and you can hear that in his music.
Jetset Da Future says he is on the move to make more music this year, expecting to drop a collaboration project with Atlanta DJ YinWiz this year and several singles. Jetset Da Future released a few stand-out singles including, “Jet Skiii,” “WiFi LuV,” and “Aye Eye I.”
Jetset Da Future’s latest single, “WiFi LuV,” featuring Deon Boston, will appear on Jetset’s new project, which will be releasing this year. Their goal with this joint project is to create a new, unique, and futuristic sound, reminiscent of the Black Eyed Peas. That’s exactly what “WiFi Luv” accomplishes with its unique melody and tune.
“The Black Eyed Peas were so futuristic with their sound. Or how Busta Rhymes and Missy Elliot were ahead their time.”
