Nejma Nefertiti’s potent prose and striking delivery over searing soundscapes by Egyptian producer Mohamad Malek make for rewind worthy Hip Hop on “The Valley of the Queens.” The audio artisan serves up authentic flows that beckon listeners to an era when boom bap reigned supreme. On the track “5 Element Ninja” guest rhyme ripper Napoleon Da Legend drops in to flip fly flows.
When asked about its development, Nejma Nefertiti explained to Insomniac Magazine how the project came to fruition and provided some insight about her collaborators:
The Valley of the Queens is a project in collaboration with producer, Mohamad Malek from Egypt. I met him on a [Facebook] group called “Arab Hip Hop” that my friend/collaborator Napoleon Da Legend suggested I join. Napoleon Da Legend is featured on it and continues to be one of my favorite people to work with. It turned out to be very fruitful as I became acquainted with some really talented and great people in the group. Mohamad Malek sent me a beat and things took off from there. I was inspired and he ended up sending me 3 more beats and that created a vision for me. I heard and seen a story in it and a solid and cohesive listening experience. He’s become a friend and we’re both excited about what we’ve built. Through this process I met a young and talented brother that goes by the name of MR. Boda. He’s become family and is a part of my team now. He mixed/mastered this project and we continue to work together. Chopped Herring Records released the project on 7” vinyl on March 1st. There have been women features on the label, but I am the first woman to be repped with a solo project in 20 years, a true milestone to be celebrated.
Don’t you dare sleep on these 4 tracks of stunning sonic steez and lavish linguistics. Hit play and behold “The Valley of the Queens.”-IZ
