Chicago native Konflik unleashes a masterfully executed lyrical tirade on Set Sail. The explosive lead guitar laded track features infectious boom bap production handled by Breathtaking Beats. This sizzling single is a prelude to the talented wordsmith’s upcoming full-length “Death.” Regarding the theme of this single, Konflik shares, “there’s no topic to this one, I just wanted a track to spit savage on and rip the mic the bars and metaphors. Breathtaking Beats laid a nice track for me to spit on and Angel Colon took it somewhere else by laying some grungy heavy metal guitar licks on top. Special shouts to my engineer Gabriel “Chi-Storm” Gil-Perez who put it all together immaculately.”
The release’s artwork features a bleak image of the emcee’s own tombstone. Although a somber graphic, Konflik provides further insight into the new album by explaining, “A few songs do use Death as a concept including Cause Of Death which talks about the violence in my home city and Eulogy which is an interlude about my own fictional funeral. However the title really represents the conclusion of my album cycle. My first full-length was Birth, then we had Maturity and now it’s come full circle. I had to take a step back from music over the past few years but I’ve still been recording. This may be my last full-length project for a while so it’s a symbolic close.” Dig into Set Sail below and prime yourself for his third album dropping on May 5th. -IZ-REAL
