North Carolina MC Prettygood joins forces with super producer Dark-Keys for an electrifying platter of audio brilliance called “The Modest Approach 3!” Showcasing a diverse range of musical & lyrical styles, the project serves as a one-stop shop for all your sonic desires. Listeners are introduced to the action via a “World Premiere” of epic proportions. Gospel arrangements lead the lyricist to testify his deepest sentiments to the public at large before segueing into the paternal musings of “Figure Father.” Prettygood claims that the song is the realest s**t he ever wrote. Listening to the honesty in his verses we can’t help but agree.
On “Eye See One” Prettygood & Dark-Keys take us into the heart of the club scene while “Star,Venus,Pheonix” slows down the pace for a decidedly more mellow vibe. The Meechy The Great featured “Last Laugh” takes us back to the dancefloor until “Making Moves” switches up the pace with jazzy rhythms. Then there’s the imaginative gem called “Pac Was Alive.” The track stages an all out assault on the senses by supplying a tour de force of creativity you won’t find elsewhere. If nostalgia’s your thing, look no further than “Mark My Words” to leave you awash in reflection. The song’s reliance on Tony Toni Tone’s classic “Lay Your Head On My Pillow” track never registers as a distraction & renders the cut that much more enjoyable.
“ILTS” and “Me and Six Minutes” delve further into the spitter’s unique characteristics. Stripped down arrangements make for funky backdrops that keep us tuned in to the vocals. Speaking of character traits, you’ll get plenty of ’em on the serious head nodder “Personality Rap.” The humor on that cut gives way to more serious subject matter on “Stay Woke” before wrapping the whole affair up with a sonic collage called “Going and Coming.” Prettygood & Dark-Keys create the perfect collaboration. There’s nothing modest about their approach to Hip Hop. It’s live, direct & in your face!
