Sharp black & white cinematography enhance the proceedings and add a layer of prestige to the event. Each MC adds his own distinct stamp to the cut while unleashing 400 years of ancestral rage.
One vital element of the song involves the lyricists detailing a full range of emotional responses to the protests. Whether it’s a racist shouting “Go back to Africa!” or George Floyd’s daughter struggling to come to terms with her father’s murder, there’s plenty of thought & passion behind every verse. It’s 2020 but the police still treat minorities like it’s 1619! “Black America stuck in the Twilight Zone/lights flashing behind me/I might not make it back home.”
