Rising artist RuudAwakening releases thought-provoking lyrics over trap-infused soundscapes on his brand new platter “Catharsis.” Employing a melodic, sing-song quality to his delivery, the Florida based spitter spices things up with a little lyrical “Magic” in the booth. The track’s mellow arrangement soon make way for the raw aggression of “Ice.” Bravado & bling are what the selection’s all about as the rapper ramps up the intensity!
“Paradise” presents a return to the laid back, head-nodding approach to production RuudAwakening’s rhyme style appears to orbit while “Freedom” slinks in with a compelling exotic groove. On this particular track the rapper digs deep to deliver a host of powerful lyrics: “I see you waiting for Heaven but ain’t a easy decision to put your mouth to the barrel so you could leave your affliction/I see you tryin’ to quit but then you need your addiction.” “Binks” immediately kicks in afterward with a reappearance of RuudAwakening’s hardcore persona to remind listeners of his complex duality.
Other standouts on the project include “Runway”(with its catchy rhythms & built-in coda of celebrating life), “LMR” which contains a hypnotic potency and the reflective hard-hitting gem “Fallen From Grace.” The album’s final cuts “The Worst” & “Thank U 4 Sharing” feel more like filler & could have been eliminated from the project altogether, but it doesn’t derail the momentum. Overall, “Catharsis” is a decent debut from an artist looking to establish his place in what can sometimes be a cruel & unforgiving industry. He’ll get there over time & we’ll definitely be watching.
