Review: Young Goats – “Goat Life Vol. 1” (Album)

L.A.’s Young Goats take listeners on a genre hopping musical journey with the delivery of their all new opus “Goat Life Vol. 1.” “Welcome to Goat Life” serves as the island-flavored introduction to an onslaught of sonic action contained on the group’s exhilarating platter. Exotic club rhythms pulsate through the speakers & motivate us to “give it all we got” before we pick up the pace with the carefree ambiance of “Only Need You.” “Beautiful” follows next with a lush arrangement expertly crafted for pop radio. “Gaze On” supplies start & stop syncopation that blends magically with the melodies while “Take You With Me” finds the crew waxing poetic over the power of love & romance.

“Got It All” supplies a funky dance vibe with fun lyrics to boot. The track’s playful nature provides the perfect set up for the seductive come hither flirtations of “L.A. Chick.” They’re hesitant to trust the west coast enchantress but still get caught up in her web of deception. After encountering the sleazy side of attraction, Young Goats are soon lured in by a woman who possesses all the qualities they desire. “Advantage Of You” is the song you spin when you realize your player days are over. The object of their affection is worth it & then some so now it’s time to show respect & take things slow. “Catch My Vibe” soon filters through the scene with a laid back groove that’s carefully layered with atmospheric arrangements & their most nuanced lyrical turn on the mic. “Don’t Know How To Act” then adds a sense of futuristic exuberance to the arena by supplying robotic voices that match the droning DNA of the production.

“Too Nervous” showcases the group in a new light. They’re uncharacteristically skittish in the presence of a woman unlike any other and their anxiety can be felt in the tightly wound construction of the track. Eventually Young Goats regain their confidence enough to flaunt their affluent lifestyle in a cut called “Dubai For The Weekend.” Back on firm footing, the duo throw down with more dance-pop excitement on “My Section” before closing out the project with a boastful EDM meets dancehall selection called “Better Than Them.” There are many artists grazing through the crowded landscape of the music industry but apparently Young Goats are the most powerful… or at the very least, the most fun.
