Not long after the success of his last project “Dead on Arrival,” Rim of Da Villins had another load of verbal heat for us. The Brownsville emcee enlisted Pittsburgh beat maker, Alcapella for this fresh new piece of work called “Keep it Ville.” While he was always nice on the mic, Rim has certainly stepped his bar game up even more for this release. Guest features include Bernadette Price, Bubba Rock, $auce Heist, Eddie Kaine, Ty Da Dale, El Ay, Villin P and Smoovth. There’s a range of variety for those who opt for a diverse palate.
One of my favorites was the first official track, “Pizza Shop” featuring the late Sean Price’s wife Bernadette, as she went in hard and showcased impressive rhyme game. Another banger was “Thru Da Head,” featuring $auce Heist, Eddie Kaine and Ty Da Dale, all who bodied their verses with cannibalistic flows. On “Wintertime,” Rim has a more laid back style, while Alcapella flipped a soulful sample for this joint that features vocals from El Ay. Fellow member, Villin P drops an ill contribution on “Side Bloccs,” a mellow track with a lot of replay value. Rim keeps it bar heavy on “Good Luck B,” and he switched up his cadence on the second verse.
As impressed as I was with “Dead on Arrival,” I think Rim upped the ante even more in terms of lyrical content this time around. The emcee has always proved his status in the game with exceptional work, and in my opinion he’s only getting better. The heartfelt dedication from Bernadette to Sean Price on “Pizza Shop” was very touching, and you can find visuals for it that transitions from “Sunset Park (Shorty & Butta)” featuring Bubba Rock. Available on most digital platforms, there’s no excuses to miss out on this. Physical copies will be following shortly. -Hipnotik1
