Stream Tragedy Monroe’s striking “Intrusive” music video (directed by Ty Harrison)

Tragedy Monroe unrolls potent and poignant prose on the unvarnished and poetic “Intrusive” video. In a music scene where vapid and fleeting are all too often the standard, the talented emcee/producer crafts Hip Hop with substance. Regarding the newly released monochromatic piece, director Ty Harrison shared a glimpse into his experience.

“Walking through Asbury Park with Tragedy Monroe filming this music video felt like stepping into pieces of his past. The track, written and produced by Tragedy, carries real grit and emotion, and being in the places where he grew up brought that energy to life. As we moved through the neighborhood he pointed out spots that once meant everything to him but no longer exist the same way. You could see it on his face while we were shooting moments of reflection that gave the performance a raw honesty you can’t fake.

By the time we wrapped the shoot Christmas was right around the corner. At church that week they were letting people “adopt” a family for the holidays buy gifts and help make their Christmas special. When I went up to choose one, sitting right at the top of the pile was a family from the same neighborhood we had just been filming in. I took it immediately. My wife and I bought gifts and did what we could to make their holiday a little brighter. Normally, I’d never talk about something like that publicly. But the way everything connected felt bigger than coincidence. Spending that day hearing Tragedy’s stories about where he came from, then being handed the chance to give back to someone from that exact community it felt like a full circle moment.

Sometimes a project feels like more than just a video shoot. Sometimes it feels like a sign that what you’re doing matters. And that’s exactly what this one felt like. This video isn’t just visuals for a track it’s a piece of memory, a piece of a neighborhood, and a moment that Tragedy Monroe and I are proud to share with the world.” -Ty Harrison
