Original Hip Hop: Notice that the young fans were positive and articulate. I met Scott La Rock in ’86, about a year before he was murdered. He was positive, encouraging, and went beyond offering advice- he actually helped me set up a meeting with the head of his label. I was a kid on the street. He could have easily ignored me, but he didn’t. That’s what Hip Hop was- a way to uplift kids who didn’t have resources. It was a voice for the voiceless. That’s a powerful thing!
